Where do you source your oddities?

My oddities are sourced from many places and I am always happy to provide more specifics when a person requests. Oddity Mystery Boxes each come with a personalized key that provides more sourcing information on each individual item. Many items are sourced by legally scavenging road-killed or naturally deceased animals. Some are antique, sourced from educational collections, or come from naturally deceased pets. Unless an item is an antique, none have been byproducts of fur or meat industries, and none come from hunted or intentionally harmed animals.

 

Are oddities legal?

All oddities have been legally, sustainably, and ethically sourced. Within the US these oddities are typically unrestricted, however, buyers are encouraged to research their local laws and are responsible for abiding by them. Please communicate any restrictions. Outside of the US I am unable to ship oddities legally due to restrictions implemented to protect wildlife.

 

What about the Smoke Shop?

Everything in the Smoke Shop is vintage or antique and looking for a second life, which is what The Market is all about!

Lighters will NOT arrive filled. This is as per USPS shipping laws and is the safest way to ship. Lighters will need to be refilled in order to be functional. Some may also require new flint, extra cleaning, or lubrication. This is all standard maintenance for refillable lighters. There are also many new and affordable lighter insert replacements available online!

 

Why do you not ship internationally?

The US has many restrictions and fees in place regarding international shipping of animal products. This is in an attempt to protect animals and reduce poaching. Unfortunately, it also makes it impossible for businesses shipping on a small scale, like myself, to ship internationally.

 

What is the best way to contact you?

Please use my website and email, PeculiarAndOddMarket@gmail.com, for all communication. Messages sent on other platforms, especially TikTok, are not checked regularly and may get filtered automatically.

 

When will my order ship?

Since The Peculiar and Odd Market carries such a variety of items, processing times do vary. For example, items in the Smoke Shop are ready to be shipped out as quickly as possible, usually within 1-2 days, since they do not require any additional prep work. On the other hand, some mystery boxes, especially ones that are taking many suggestions and preferences into account, may take as long as 7-10 days to ship. This is because it takes time to curate, preserve, and package each individual item. If you're running on a restricted schedule and need something shipped to you within a certain window please mention this in your order notes and I will do my best to accommodate your needs (and usually can!). Once orders are shipped out an automatic email is sent to customers with tracking info. Please check spam folders, as there have been cases that these emails have gotten lost to the spam void!

 

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, however, please understand that cancelled orders financially burden small businesses. Not only does it take time to package your item, but it takes time to adjust inventory and fulfill refunds. This time is wasted when an order is cancelled. On top of this, income will be lost on thrown away packaging supplies and listing fees for an item that was previously considered sold. I do understand that circumstances come up in which an order may need to be cancelled, so I will refund an item in full as long as a request is made within 72 hours. After 72 hours your item has already begun processing and I will no longer be able to process any refunds for it. Furthermore, cancelled orders WILL reflect on a customer account, and multiple requests will result in a customer ban where all orders are immediately cancelled without further notice. Unfortunately, this is a step that I have had to take in order to protect my business.
 

What is your shipping and return policy?

If an item arrives damaged please send an email with attached photos within 30 days of delivery. For original artwork I will ask that as much of the piece as possible is return mailed back to me with tracking, after which I will issue a full refund. After this 30 day window I will no longer accept refunds or returns.

Please double check that all shipping addresses are correct. Packages that cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address will be return mailed back to me. I am happy to re-ship orders to your correct address, however, I will ask that customers cover the cost of a new shipping label in these instances.

Orders over $35 will ship for free. Packages are shipped via USPS and automatically include tracking. Orders with a value over $100 will show an additional $2 shipping insurance fee. This is an added safety for both the seller and the buyer to ensure that if a package is lost or stolen a replacement or refund can be issued as quickly as possible. If a package is lost or stolen, please understand that I can only do so much as I have already legally transferred ownership of the package. I am more than happy to assist in filing a claim with USPS and following the necessary protocol. Typically it takes 30 days for USPS to issue an insurance refund starting from the day a package is lost in transit. Please be patient during this time, as again, the speed at which USPS conducts internal investigations is entirely out of my hands. I know delays suck, so I'm happy to work with you so we can quickly find your best solution!
